Last week Instrument Works presented at the Asian Pacific Confederation of Chemical Engineering (APCChE) conference on a recent collaboration, investigating how junior researchers use data acquisition equipment in the lab and reported on the success of a recent implementation of the DataWorks App as a data acquisition system.

The talk presented results from our resent survey of PhD and Honours Engineering students and how they collect their data.  Key findings were:
  • That honours students were more likely to collect data by hand that PhD students due to the limited research time they have and the time it takes to learn the existing tools.
  • Few researchers start from scratch when setting up new experiments. They either adapt or copy an existing setup for their own experiment.
We also showed how easy the DataWorks app is to setup and start collecting data – reducing what would normally take a few days to a few hours.
